A federal appeals court has struck down an injunction blocking a John Doe investigation into Wisconsin’s recall elections.
The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals has overturned a decision made by district Judge Rudolph Randa earlier this summer, which stopped the investigation into possible illegal coordination between Governor Scott Walker’s campaign during his recall election and outside conservative groups. Those third party groups argued the investigation violated their First Amendment rights.
The appeals court also ruled in favor of keeping several documents in the case sealed.
The ruling overturning Randa’s injunction will have little impact on the status of the investigation. The probe remains on hold because of a state court decision that’s still on appeal.
