Martial arts instructors teaching kids will have be licensed by the state of Wisconsin under a bill signed by Governor Doyle Wednesday. Assembly Sponsor Marlin Schneider says the goal is to have the Department of Regulation and Licensing screen potential applicants who’ve been convicted of sex crimes or murder.
Schneider says idea came from some constituents but it’s taken up to five years to get the bill through. He says martial arts instructors are generally good people but there have been cases of sexual abuse occurring in training halls.
The Wisconsin Rapids Democrat says the application cost is “minor” and believes most martial arts will be compliant once aware of the new regulations.
