The nation's First Lady made a stop in De Pere Tuesday to stump for Republican Congressional candidate John Gard.
Laura Bush said Gard has cut taxes during his tenure in the state Assembly, including a billion dollars in income taxes. She also touted Gard's record on creating jobs and expanding the state's school choice program. Mrs. Bush said Gard would also be a champion of the military, adding that it's vital that Iraq is a democratic country that has the United States as an ally.
The Gard campaign estimated that 800 people attended the rally at the Swan Club. The First Lady landed at Austin Strabel Airport in Green Bay Tuesday afternoon, and spoke to Gard supporters for about 10 minutes. The Republican faces Democrat Steve Kagen in the November 7th election.
